Adrian College women’s hockey senior Kortney Diaz was named the NCAA Division III Statistical Champion for shorthanded goals after netting three while a player down this year. She was one of four Division III women’s hockey players to tally three shorthanded goals to tie for the award.

Diaz’s three shorthanded goals this year is tied for second-most in one season. They are also the only three shorthanded goals of her career, putting her in sole possession of third place in program history for career shorthanded goals. She anchored the Bulldogs’ penalty kill this year, helping AC have the fourth-best penalty kill in all of Division III, killing 91.9% of penalties taken, only allowing 10 goals while shorthanded all year. Diaz’s three goals were half of the team’s total while shorthanded, tied for the second-most in the nation.

In addition to her shorthanded goals, Diaz is also in the record books for game-winning goals, with her eight career ranking tied for eighth in program history. She picked up four this year, also tied for eighth in a single season.
