In most sports, it’s unthinkable for a broadcaster to save the life of an athlete. In NASCAR, it happened three times in seven years. Dr. Jerry Punch is one of NASCAR’s most respected men because of his skills as a broadcaster but also for his knowledge as a medical doctor. Between 1982 and 1988, Dr. Punch is credited with saving the life of Bill Dennis, Rusty Wallace, and Don Marmor.
