VALLEY, Alab. (SESN) — The Point University Football Team returned to the field for their Appalachian Athletic Conference home finale against Union Commonwealth University, which also served as Senior Day for the Skyhawks. Point University ultimately won over the Bulldogs with a final score of 29-15.
Point’s defense made quick work of the offense of Union as the Bulldogs were forced to punt on their first drive. The Skyhawks opened the gate with Mitchell Gossett connecting with Quintravious Teasleyfor the 59-yard touchdown. The Skyhawks would be unable to convert on the Point after try to keep the score at 6-0. The Bulldogs looked to respond on the following drive but could not move the ball past the Skyhawk defense. Point opened the following drive with another quick play as Mitchell Gossettaired it out to Shawn Jones Jr. For a 77-yard touchdown. Logan Wandzilak converted on the field goal to extend the score to 13-0 in the first quarter. As the quarter continued, Union’s defense found some life with a three and out. As Matthew Moses punted, a muffed punt from the Bulldogs found Ethan Binns jumping on the ball for the fumble recovery. The Skyhawks’ offense took the field with great positioning but would be held to just three points as Logan Wandzilak finished the drive with a 32-yard field goal. As Union’s offense looked to gain some steam, Jayden Grier was in the right place at the right time as Grier jumped on the live ball for a fumble recovery. As the first half continued, Point held the lead with a score of 19-0 to go into the break.
Union opened the third quarter by forcing a three-and-out and started their drive on offense with a 63-yard touchdown pass to find their way on the scoreboard. Point would not let up as the Skyhawks added multiple passes to Quintravious Teasley to keep the drive alive. Treyvon Copeland entered the fray with powerful runs to get the Skyhawks to the goal line. Copeland finished the drive with a six-yard touchdown to move the score to 26-7. Union opened the final period of play with a one-yard touchdown rush on the goal line and followed with a successful two-point conversion to trail by 11. Point opened the drive with Quintravious Teasley adding a 14-yard catch and Treyvon Copeland followed with a 14-yard rush to move closer into the redzone. Logan Wandzilak finished the drive with a 28-yard field goal which brought the score to 29-15. Point’s defense halted the Bulldogs’ offense to end the game.

Mitchell Gossett went 18-for-33 under center and threw for 251 passing yards with two touchdowns and his longest pass being 77 yards. Treyvon Copeland led the running game with eight rushes for 43 yards and one touchdown. Quintravious Teasley led the receiving core with nine receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown. Shawn Jones Jr. Added two catches for 82 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Kemorion Larkin led with eight tackles and one pass breakup.
