The 2002 NC State football team was one of the best and most talented teams in the history of Wolfpack football. After opening the season on a 9-game win streak, they finished with 11 wins (NCSU Record) and a No.12 AP ranking. NC State featured a 3-headed monster on offense of QB Philip Rivers, WR Jerricho Cotchery, and RB T.A. McClendon. Dantonio Burnette and Shawn Price led a defense that registered a school record 48.0 sacks, allowing a meager 17.0 points per game.
