The pure sounds of two-stroke motocross bikes and the smell of premix filled the air once again at Glen Helen Raceway, only six months after the 2020 2-Stroke Motocross World Championship – which was delayed due to Covid. But for 2021, the Wiseco Presents 2-Stroke MX World Championship hosted by Fasthouse was back to its normal time slot at Glen Helen, the first weekend in April.
Blue skies, mild temperatures and a rough-as-hell track greeted racers who were eager to drop open some power valves. Robbie Wageman came upon good fortune shortly after Josh Grant ran into some bad… Grant unfortunately crashed and injured himself in practice, ending his day. Wageman filled the empty seat aboard his #33 Yamaha YZ250 and rode to victory in the first moto. A second-place finish in the second moto was all Wageman needed to wrap up the overall victory.
Trevor Stewart rode to an impressive win in the second moto, getting himself on the overall podium in third with a 7-1 tally. Beta USA rider Dare DeMartile, filling in for the injured Carlen Gardner, turned heads with his solid 2-3 finish, taking runner-up honors in the Open 2-Stroke Pro race.
Kurt Nicoll and Doug Dubach went at it once again, trading some paint in the Pasha 50+ 125 Pro class. Pasha generously ponied up some purse money for the 125cc 2-stroke classes, with 30+, 50+ and 125 Pro paying out.
Check out the beautiful machinery in the pits, and expansion chambers that belong in an art gallery. Have you ever seen a YX500? Spot it at 0:51! Also catch a cameo by Ronnie Mac, who sneaked out on the track in the 40+ Expert class.
