The Adrian College softball team won the first game of its series with Olivet to open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play for the 2019 season on Friday, March 29. The second game was in the top of the seventh when it was suspended for darkness, with the Bulldogs trailing 12-8.
Rogers hit the go-ahead two-run homer to lead the team with two RBIs. Connolly had three hits to lead the team while Lynch and Cubberly each added two. Freshman Natalie Mathers pitched a total of 7.1 innings to get the win, starting and then coming back in to relieve Baldus. Mathers gave up four runs (two earned) on 10 hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Cubberly pitched one shutout inning to get the save, picking up one strikeout. Dayoni Mahlich led Olivet with three hits while also picking up an RBI. Payton Watson, Andrea Rico and Kinslea Blouin had two hits each and Watson and Blouin both had an RBI. Rico started the game and went 4.1 innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits. Danielle Erickson took the loss, going 5.2 innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The two teams will look to finish game two of the doubleheader on Sunday, March 31 in Olivet if weather allows.
