The Adrian College men’s basketball team fell in a close contest at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. Jeremy Kalonji posted his first double-double of the season (19pts, 10 reb).
Despite OWU collecting the first points of the contest, AC was able to quickly take the lead as Connor Pelham posted five points on a three-pointer and two free throws to go up 5-3.
The hosts were able to regain control, but not pull away as the Bulldogs stayed within striking distance as Pelham was again able to put them ahead, on a pair of free throws (20-18). Kaleb Swick extended their lead to four points as he collected a layup.
Broken up by an OWU layup, Jeremy Kalonji was able to regain the make it a five-point margin with a three.
Trey Helinski posted a three of his own to help AC close out the half with a 43-38 lead.
Robert Warrick opened the second stanza with a three-pointer to extend Adrian’s lead to eight on a made three. Kaleb Swick was also able to make the board with a layup after a Battling Bishop bucket (48-40).
Kaljoni was able to stop an OWU eight-point run with a pair of free throws to regain the lead, 50-48.
After relinquishing the lead, Pelham was able to put the Bulldogs ahead once again on a jump shot with 9:05 remaining in the contest (65-64).
Giving Adrian its last lead of the game was Tyler Gillery at 2:43 as he was able to collect a pair of free throws.
Helinski recorded a layup as the clock ran out, as AC fell 85-81.
