Chevrolet Teases Next-Gen Camaro

A new teaser image gives us a first glimpse of the new Next Gen Camaro Nascar ahead of the race car’s unveiling tomorrow, May 5. The shadowy teaser shows the new race car’s front fascia with an illuminated grille and headlights. Another teaser shows the new Camaro racer alongside the new Ford Mustang and Toyota Camry race cars, which represent the “rebirth of stock.” These Next Gen race cars will more closely resemble the road cars they are based on, boast improved downforce and aerodynamics, and will help racing teams cut costs.

New Next Gen race cars will also be equipped with a six-speed sequential transmission replacing the four-speed manual, larger centerlock alloy wheels, independent rear suspension, and a rear diffuser.

The current Generation 6 Nascar racer debuted in the 2013 Cup Series season. Chevrolet first used the Holden Commodore-based SS sedan body before replacing it with a Camaro ZL1. This was then replaced with a ZL1 1LE body in the 2020 Nascar Cup Series.

Chevrolet’s Next Gen Nascar is also expected to be branded as a ZL1, but more details will be revealed tomorrow when Ford and Toyota will also reveal the new Next Gen Mustang and Camry race cars at Charlotte Motor Speedway. All three Next Gen cars will make their track debut next year at the 2022 Nascar Cup Series.
