LAFAYETTE, GA. (SESN) — The Chattooga Indians will host the LaFayette Ramblers tonight at 7:30 p.m. in a non-conference matchup that marks the beginning of the 2024 high school football season. Both teams are looking to make a statement in their season opener. The Ramblers won this contest in Week 1 last season handily, posting a final of 28-3 over the Indians at home.
For LaFayette, all eyes will be on quarterback Dax Edwards, who is expected to lead the offense this season. While the Ramblers know what they have in running back Khalas Finley—who was nearly unstoppable last season with his powerful running game—Edwards’ performance could be a game-changer as LaFayette looks to balance their offensive attack.

Chattooga’s offense will be driven by quarterback Quarry Gibson and running back Zayden Cook. Gibson’s ability to manage the game and Cook’s explosiveness out of the backfield will be crucial as the Indians attempt to match LaFayette’s physicality.
LaFayette comes in having finished last season with a balanced offensive attack that accumulated 1,957 rushing yards and 488 passing yards, averaging 244.5 total yards per game. Their scoring average of 14.4 points per game was supported by a stout defense that recorded 19 sacks and 13 interceptions, helping them maintain a +3 turnover margin.
Chattooga, ranked 401st in the state on MaxPreps, will rely heavily on their defense to keep the game within reach. Last season, the Indians allowed 48 touchdowns and 33.8 points per game, numbers they will need to improve upon to compete against the Ramblers. Offensively, Chattooga managed 1,479 total yards, putting up 801 yards through the air.
For LaFayette, controlling the clock with their running game and taking calculated shots downfield with Edwards will be key. Finley is expected to carry the load, but a balanced approach could catch Chattooga’s defense off guard.
Chattooga will need to establish their ground game early to set up play-action opportunities for Gibson. Keeping LaFayette’s defense guessing will be crucial if they want to find success against a unit that has proven adept at creating turnovers.
This early-season clash will provide an opportunity for both teams to gauge where they stand. With key players like Edwards, Finley, Gibson, and Cook leading the charge, fans can expect a hard-fought contest under the lights in Summerville.
