More on Why the Cleveland Cavaliers Reassigned John Beilein

Pro Basketball

The Cleveland Cavaliers and John Beilein era came to an end after just 54 games, 40 of which they lost. Cleveland announced that the former Michigan coach was stepping down as Cavs head coach.

As part of the move, the Cavaliers announced that Beilein will transition to an unspecified role within the organization. Many were surprised to hear this. Beilein’s first and only season as a pro coach has been a tough one.

Players “tuned him out” over his college-style approach, he called the players “thugs” by accident and Andre Drummond has declared that he would not re-sign in Cleveland if Beilein was the head coach. That was after just one week of playing for him.

John Beilein had $12 million guaranteed over four years.

66-year-old Beilein was a college coach for 40 years. Unfortunately the culture was just too different for the University of Michigan legend.
