Last race at Michigan, I won again in my first race with a fully maxed car for my 6th consecutive win & my 11th total of the season breaking the record for most wins in a single season in the new millennium set by Johnson in 2007. Not to mention bumping our point lead up to well over 150 points on Gordon. Now today we head over to the west coast for our first of 2 road course races of the season at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California for the Toyota Save Mart 350. Ultimately the harder of the 2 road courses despite being shorter at just under 2 miles due to the many tight turns with a lot of elevation changes which can really throw you in for a loop if you’re not careful. The AI’s will be fast in qualifying so no matter how well we do, we’ll start around a lot of cars. But since they’re much slower in race trim, if we can just pass them cleanly & quickly, we shouldn’t have much issues and should be able to just drive off as even the fastest AI’s usually can’t run better than 1:19s. This was also where I got my 2nd and final league win at close to 8 years ago so I have high hopes for this race as my first league win came in the race before at Michigan so they were actually both in a row. The road courses are unique in that you can get time penalties if you go off track & the game deems you’ve gained time from it which it can be really bad at judging that at times so we need to try really hard to just stay on the pavement. The penalties are added on to your total time at the end of the race. The league owner of the league I was in all those years ago won the other road course race at Watkins Glen even though he crossed the line 2nd & this was cause the leader had more time penalties than he did so this can make or break your race.
