CINCINNATI (Adam Clements) — The NCAA Tournament is in full swing but it’s not just basketball that has fans excited. It’s also tourney time for college hockey and it’s happening right here in the Queen City.

This is a big deal with some pretty big programs coming to town to vie for the top prize in college hockey. It all kicks off Friday at US Bank Arena.

It’s the NCAA Tournament on ice, down to sixteen teams. Four of those squads are here. Ferris State takes on Colgate at 4:30 p.m. That game will be followed by a matchup of two perennial powerhouse programs, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

For a city not typically known for hockey outside of the Cyclones, having Cincinnati as a host city for the tournament is a sign that the sport is definitely growing here in the Tri-State. “Interest has been good. The hardcore hockey fans realize that the level of hockey they’re going to see down here is intense, it’s the best of the best, it’s just good, grinding, hard nose hockey,” says Sean Lynn from the U.S. Bank Arena. “And I think even some of the casual fans are kinda wanting to come down and see the different levels, you know we have the cyclones down here at the professional level, and see the difference between the collegiate game.”

Tickets are still available for both games today, as well as tomorrow’s game. You can buy them at the arena or through Ticketmaster.
