Presbyterian College Kicker Lipscombe Named PFL Special Teams Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (SESN) — Practically a no-brainer of a decision after he set a program Division I record just 24 hours ago, kicker Peter Lipscombe of the Presbyterian College football team was selected as the PFL Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday afternoon.

During a 28-7 beatdown over Dayton inside Bailey Memorial Stadium – the second straight conference win for the Blue Hose, both in dominant fashion – Lipscombe became the first PC kicker since at least 2007 to hit four field goals on the same day.

The Maryland native was responsible for exactly half of the team’s point production (14 out of 28), connecting on both PAT’s and hitting one field goal in every quarter.

No player had ever made four FG’s in a single contest since the school jumped to the D-I ranks 17 years ago, transforming Lipscombe into a breakout star after spending the majority of his career in a backup role.

AWARDS GALORE

– This is the fifth weekly award from the Pioneer Football League that has gone to the Blue Hose over the past two seasons, and the third time over the last season-and-a-half with a Special Teams Player of the Week shoutout.

– Then-freshman Mack Mikko earned Special Teams Player of the Week twice in 2023, with the second honor coincidentally also after a clutch victory against Dayton.

– Lipscombe’s four kicks in one game are the second-most of any player at the FCS level this year, hitting from distances of 37, 27, 22, and 34 in the blowout over the Flyers.

– Prior to Saturday, Lipscombe had never made a college field goal (used primarily in point-after-touchdown scenarios). He is now a part of Blue Hose history.

LOOKING AHEAD

– Head coach Steve Englehart‘s club has now won back-to-back league games for the first time since joining the PFL in 2021. They’ve done so by outscoring the other side 70-21, building a growing wave of confidence down the stretch.

– After 10 weekends in a row of competing, Presby has earned a BYE for this Saturday. Only two matchups remain on PC’s schedule, starting with a trip to Marist on November 16.

– The Scotsmen currently hold an overall record of 4-6 (2-4 in conference bouts). They’ll aim for a season-closing four-game win streak by battling the Red Foxes in Poughkeepsie and then hosting Butler in the ’24 finale later this month.
