This game is in our Great Engine Game series! It is a truly magnificent game from Stockfish from start to finish. Stockfish sacrifices first a pawn then the exchange to set up an impressive bind on Minic’s central and kingside dark squares. However Minic defends ingeniously, immobilising White’s attacking pieces with counterthreats against White’s light squares such as g2; the centralised black knights also make it hard for White’s queen to join in the attacking fun. Stockfish however finds subtle queen manoeuvres to destabilise Minic’s knights and the variations are replete with hard-to-spot tactics against all of Black’s possibilities. In the end Stockfish wins the exchange and converts easily.
