South Pittsburg High School Starts GoFundMe in Face of Tragedy

The South Pittsburg, Tennessee community is hurting- and they need your help. On Saturday, June 4th, four families received the worst call imaginable. It left a community pained, and they are now working to pick up the pieces. 

The Head Football Coach at South Pittsburg High School, Wes Stone, took to GoFundMe to pen a letter to the public. Coach Stone explained that South Pittsburg is a small 1A high school with around 370 students in grades seven through twelve. 

“This is a very small community,” he wrote. “Where everyone is like family. I personally coached each of the young men in high school football that were tragically killed.” 

Coach Stone has started a fundraiser in an attempt to raise money for families to help with expenses. That’s why we are asking for your help. You can click here to see the GoFundMe page and make a donation. 

Jayven Martin played defensive line at South Pittsburg High School. He was a 2018 SPHS graduate. His younger brother, Saveon, played offensive line at South Pittsburg. He was a class of 2021 graduate. 

Jamal Allen was an All-State Defensive End and a class of 2021 graduate. Coach Stone went on to share that Jamal, was also his little cousin. 

Jailyn Pellam was a member of the 2021 Class 1A State Championship team and was a rising junior. “I have coached Jailyn since he was 5 years old, in little league baseball,” said Coach Stone. 

“All four of these guys were teammates, friends, and in one case, a cousin with two of my sons,” wrote Wes. “Our community has been devastated by Saturday’s events and will be laying these Pirates to rest soon and start to begin the healing process.”
