Both the girls and boys teams of Bradley Central won their games in a rivalry bout with Cleveland High School. The Raiders and Bears battled it out in a Friday night skirmish inside of Jim Smiddy Arena.
The Bearettes were up first- and set the tone quickly. Bradley out scored their opponents in both of the first quarters, taking a 23-14 lead into the half. Karsee Weber and Hannah Jones both scored heavily throughout the course of the contest.
Weber finished with an impressive 16 points, going 6-12 from the floor, including three from distance. Hannah Jones added another 12 to the stat sheet, going 4-5, including one three ball.
Karsee Weber finished with 16 total points
Lauren Hurst was the top performer for the Raiders. She scored 10 points, going 4-6 from the floor. She also recorded two steals throughout the course of the contest.
The final was 49-35. Though I’m not entirely confident in my analysis, it felt like the press of Bradley Central was the main factor in their winning. The Raiders couldn’t get set on offense, and struggled to get quality looks.

Even though the final score of the boys game seemed like quite the difference, it was a nail biter for the duration of the contest. In fact, it was tied 48-48 at the end of the third quarter.
In the end it was sharing the ball effectively and taking good looks that helped Bradley overcome the Raiders of Cleveland High School. The Raiders were very efficient on both ends, but didn’t seem to share the ball as effectively.
Aiden McClary was the top scorer for the Bears, finishing with 13 total points. Point Guard Brandon Shumbera had a showing as usual, finishing with 10 points and making some big plays along the way.
Aiden McClary finished with 13 total points
Trevor Carpenter and Karter Howard were instrumental in the Bears win as well. Carpenter finished with 11 total points, and Howard chipped in another 10. Jackson Ary and Josh Wykoff were also top scorers, with 7 and 8 points.
Gabe Leeper, Tate O’Bryan, and Alex Hyder were my three stars for the Raiders, as they made big plays on both ends and stuffed the stat sheet. Leeper finished with 20 total points, followed by Hyder’s 15.
O’Bryan was a menace defensively for the Bears, who tended to steer the ball, and the play, away from him while playing on the offensive end of the floor.
