WATCH: Brooms are Standing on Their Own, Here’s Why

My mind was literally blown when I discovered that brooms were standing on their own. Have they always done that? Allegedly the answer is yes. People were quick to quell the viral trend, saying it’s something to do with the way they bristle that allows them to stand.

I immediately questioned it myself. I received a snapchat from my younger cousin and didn’t believe him. You can see in a tweet below that I had a whole restaurant in Adrian, Michigan in on this.

Hundreds, if not thousands of tweets and posts on Facebook prove that brooms are standing upright on their own. People are kind of panicking about this. It’s whacky. It’s funny. It’s harmless. Check out some tweets below.

Some people are saying that is has something to do with gravity specific to today, or the way the earth is titled at the moment. Even more users say that NASA confirms it. Something I can’t find, therefore don’t believe.

Others say it happens every time we have a Spring Equinox (which isn’t until March). Lots of people say it can be done anytime of the year for no reason at all, blaming the bristles and saying that they just balance that way.

In an interview with Portal R7, published by Time 24 News, the director of the UNESP Astrophysics Institute, Rodolfo Langhi, said that there is no special reason that the brooms are standing.

“It depends on the base of the object, the heavier and wider it is, the greater the chances of standing, Langhi said. “The same brooms that appear in the photos can be balanced at any time of the year.”

So in summary, yes. As I mentioned in my tweet, it was because we as a society had never collectively tried to stand a broom up before.
