Small business owners know their stuff. They KNOW how to make an amazing sandwich. They KNOW how to cut hair. They KNOW that their way is the best. They are ready to put those skills to the test and make some serious money. What MOST of them do not KNOW can hurt them. Negotiating commercial leases can be a mind field of despair. Having that “spirit” of entrepreneurship is not enough. Having the perfect product or service will not get you through. Too often, Landlords and their agents are ready to prey on your naiveté. Thinking that you should be paying rent on day one is WRONG. Thinking that you should be providing a deposit is WRONG. Thinking that a commercial lease is the same as anything you have ever done before is WRONG. You KNOW your business, get educated before you lose everything because of what you don’t know.
