The 2020 NFL Draft is upon us. 32 NFL teams will be changed forever, as they select young talent in what has become a spectacle of its own within the game. This is a mock of the first two rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.
In the early 1930s, Stan Kostka had an incredible collegiate career as the University of Minnesota’s running back. Kostka led the Golden Gophers to an undefeated season in 1934. As a result, every NFL team wanted to sign him.
Since there was no draft back then, Stan did the smart thing: he held out for the highest offer. Stan’s nine-month NFL holdout succeeded and he became the league’s highest-paid player, signing a $5,000 contract with the NFL’s team in Brooklyn, New York on August 25th, 1935.
As a response to the bidding war for Stan Kostka, the NFL instituted the draft in 1936. Click here to read the full history of the NFL Draft and how it became the spectacle it is today.
