Before Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech had not had a losing season since 1992. The Hokies now have two in the last five years which makes year six for Fuente a huge one in Blacksburg. The biggest point of emphasis comes on the offensive side of the ball. The Hokies return six starters including QB Braxton Burmeister. But the QB room is very thin after that and the Hokies will desperately miss RB Khalil Herbert who rushed for 1,182 yards and eight TDs last year. The defense looks to be the strength of this team with Justin Hamilton entering year two as DC. After allowing 32.1 PPG and 447.5 YPG, the Hokies should improve drastically with leading tackler Chamarri Conner returning as well as sack leader Amare Barno on the defensive line. The schedule is not easy with games against UNC, West Virginia, Notre Dame, and Miami on the schedule, but the talent is there for Virginia Tech to get back to their winning ways and take a little pressure off Fuente.
