The 2021 CIF State Cross Country meet was held on November 27 at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA. The course is 5K. In California cross country, schools are divided into five divisions based on enrollment (with D1 being large schools). This is Race 1 – Division 3 Boys. Defending 2019 D3 champ Campolindo and 2021 season favorite West Torrance were close throughout the race, but West Torrance prevailed at the end with a 57 point team total to Campolindo’s 70. Maria Carrillo high came in third with 174 pts. On the individual side, a group of about 10 athletes stayed together until the last mile – where it became a battle between West Torrance’s Conor Gibson and Tamalpais’ Caden Carney. Carney seprated in the final 400 to take the championship with a 15:04.6 clocking, to Gibson’s 15:12.9. Isaiah Givens of Pasadena made a late charge to take 3rd in 15:15.3.
