Breaking down the school, stats, recruitment, projection, and more for the true freshman defensive lineman.

The recruitment of George Rooks had most Michigan fans bewildered until the very end. Some were predicting the New Jersey recruit to head to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Others predicted the defensive tackle to head to Penn State just a day before he actually committed to the Michigan Wolverines. For a position of need at defensive tackle, picking up a surprise commitment of this nature is quite the nice surprise.

Projecting where George Rooks will end up is a different story. He’s a lean 270 pounds at 6’4, and has been deployed primarily as a defensive end throughout his high school career. With advanced hands and an athletic frame, he provides upside on the defensive line, but it’s a matter of “where”. Will he be deployed on the interior, or used more as a defensive end? Time will tell, but Michigan’s added some important depth at defensive tackle with this freshman, something that cannot be said with some of the previous classes before 2021.
