It wasn’t easy, and should have been easier yesterday. But the M’s sweep of Texas should give the Mariners a Dylan Moore Grand Slam-esque gust of wind in their sails heading into this weekend’s series in Houston
– 2 guys that we want to see get back on track – JP Crawford & Mitch Haniger – went 2-5 with 2 runs and 2-5 with a HR, 3 RBI, and 3 runs respectively
– Ty France was 3-6 with with a HR and 3 RBI too. He’s now batting .286!
– Kyle Seager’s RBI run continued
– Chris Flexen cruised through 7 innings
– Paul Sewald came in for a 3rd appearance in 3 days. A little concerning given they’ll probably need him this weekend in Houston, but the guy is gutty. He gave Servais the heads up before the game that he was good to go
You even got an emotional Scott Servais team meeting after the fact. And rightfully so. They’re 10 games above .500 for the first time all season, and improved to 26-14 in 1 run games.
Still, the Houston Astros are one of the best teams in baseball. So where are you at confidence wise heading into this series?
I’m at a 4.9999998. Does that sound like riding the fence? YES. I am way too much of a coward to pick the Mariners to win a 3 game series against the big bad Houston Astros. I mean…you saw how the last series went, right?
THAT SAID…
– They lingered in that series…as they’ve done this year
– McCaughan isn’t starting
– Yusei was solid against them last time around
– Toro is in as 2nd baseman the whole series. He had that pinch hit homer…
– Is Haniger really gonna go 1-14 again over 3 games?
– And Jarred Kelenic has been much better at the plate
On top of that, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, and pitcher Jose Urquidy are still out.
This weekend should be fun. Can’t wait!
