In this video, i’m going to show you how i went from doing rocketed backside flips like this to doing backside flips with pop, power and confidence like this.

The secret to a really good backside flip is to slide your front foot up the nose and flick straight off the nose to create a leveled backside flip.

If you want to learn how I see backside flips work then keep watching because i’m going to share with you my technique on how you can master backside flips.

Make sure you have bs 180s down

And a really good kickflip where you’re flicking from the nose of the skateboard.

This is my foot position for backside flips.

My backfoot is entirely on the tail just like a kickflip.

For my front foot, i place most of my foot on the board in a pointy direction like a kickflip.

Try to have your shoes right on the edge of the heelflip side of the skateboard. That’s how far i advise you put your front foot on the board. And place it directly underneath the front bolts. No gaps between them.

You can have your front foot hanging off the board more like this where it’s right underneath the bolts. As long as you apply the same techniques i teach you here then you should be able to backside flip.

To do a really good backside flip, you want to drag your front foot up the board to the nose and straight straight off the nose.

This is how you’re going to get a levelled bs flip.

So ride at a comfortable speed and set up for a bs flip.

Squat down for power and at the same time start building momentum with your shoulders for the bs 180.

Let;s take a look again and this time, take a look at my leading shoulder, notice how i’m starting to swing it to build momentum.

Start turning to 90 degrees

Keep your shoulders at 90 degrees and pop the board. Slide your front foot up to the nose and get ready to flick off the nose. There is a very small delay here from sliding the front foot up the nose and flicking. Don’t pop and flick at the same time. Wait until you slide your front foot up the nose.

Flick straight off the nose at 90 degrees and at the same time, lean a little bit forward at the 90 degree point just like you would if you were doing a regular bs 180.

Let your momentum swing you around to complete the turn.

Gravity will bring you down to catch the board. Land and ride away clean!

Don’t be afraid. Remember to lean forward a little bit so that you get a levelled bs flip.

If you don’t lean forward enough then you’ll get rocketed backside flips.

Remember to completely turn your shoulders to 90 degrees for bs flips.

Apply these techniques and you should get bs kickflips!

One of the most common issues to bs flips is landing heavy on the tail like this.

And that’s because you’re not leaning forward enough.

Don’t be afraid, lean forward a little bit just like a backside 180 and this should fix the problem.

To recap…..

I really hoped you learned something new today with my backside 180 kickflip tutorial. If you did, please let me know in the comment box below.

After you’ve landed one, land 100 more and the sky’s the limit.

You can try bigspin kickflips after and if you want to learn how, feel free to watch the next video here to learn how to bigspin flip.

See you all later!
