WALESKA, Ga. (SESN) — In a decisive clash on their home turf at Ken White Field, the Reinhardt Eagles secured a convincing 41-20 victory against the Kentucky Christian Knights. This crucial win in the AAC boosted their season record to 6-4 and 4-1 in the conference. They will need to finish out the season on a win to keep their playoff chances alive.
The game began with a competitive edge, the halftime score standing at 13-7 in favor of the Eagles. Jamarion Walker and Stephin Craig led the charge with two touchdowns each, substantially contributing to the Eagles’ commanding lead. Additionally, Jayden Ponder added another touchdown, further widening the gap against the Knights. Ponder’s score came after an 80-yard run by Jah Colbert that put the Eagles on the “one-inch” line. Ponder punched it in from there.
Key moments included Alex Hanson‘s successful execution of two field goals in the second quarter and a combined effort in the fourth quarter from Craig and Walker, who secured the win with three rushing touchdowns. Despite Derrell Simmons scoring three touchdowns for Kentucky Christian, the Eagles’ robust defense and strategic plays kept them in the lead.
The offense saw significant contributions from Jah Colbert, who sprinted for 102 rushing yards, 14 receiving yards, and 46 punt return yards. Not to be overlooked, Taylor Jackson and other members also added substantial yardage that kept the momentum in Reinhardt’s favor. Jackson ended the day and his final home game at Ken White Field with 109 yards on 8-19 passing. His long was a 46-yarder to running back Jayden Ponder.
Defensively, the Eagles were led by Cortez Brown, who managed 14 tackles for loss and racked up 3 sacks. Emmanuel Olaita contributed crucial 11 sack yards, playing a pivotal role in defending Reinhardt’s lead.
Special teams were not left behind, with Alex Hanson impressively adding 393 kickoff yards and securing 5 PATs alongside his two field goals. Colby Harrison contributed with 165 punt yards, showcasing the well-rounded performance from all teams. He had his best punt of the year on a 58-yard boomer that pined the Knights deep in their territory.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face the Union Bulldogs in Barbourville, Kentucky. The Eagles will need to win this game to keep their playoff hopes alive. At the moment, there is a three-way tie at first place in the AAC with the Eagles, Point University, and UPike. Everything will be decided after next Saturday.
