The Steelheads finish the 2018-19 regular season today (Sunday, April 6th) against the Utah Grizzlies. The Steelheads open the 2019 U.S. Bank Kelly Cup Playoffs on this coming Friday, April 12th and Saturday, April 13th at 7:10pm from CenturyLink Arena.
With a win on Friday and two losses by the Utah Grizzlies last weekend, the Steelheads have officially clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the postseason. It will be the club’s 22nd-straight appearance in postseason play. It also extends the longest active playoff streak in professional hockey and the longest active streak in North American professional sports. The Steelheads also set a new ECHL record for longest consecutive playoff streak at 16 seasons, and the organization has yet to miss the playoffs dating back to its inaugural season in 1997-98.
Heading into the final game of the regular season, the Mountain Division has been decided. The Tulsa Oilers win last night and the OT loss by the Steelheads, means that the Oilers will take the division title. The Steelheads and Grizzlies will meet in the Mountain Division Semifinals. Tulsa and and the Kansas City Mavericks will be the other divisional meeting, with the winner of each pairing to meet for a chance to represent the Mountain Division in the Western Conference Final.
