The 6-foot-7, 330-pound player will be a sophomore this fall after playing nine games for the national champion Bulldogs last season.

Former five-star recruit Amarius Mims, who seriously considered FSU during the recruiting process before finally signing with Georgia, entered Portal on Monday and signed with the Seminoles for the 2022 game, a source said.

Florida State’s offensive line has made two new acquisitions through the transfer portal this offseason, but now the Seminoles appear to have made their biggest deal yet.

Mims, of Cochran, Georgia, was named the country’s No. 5 prospect by Rivals and Georgia’s No. 1 player in the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Throughout the recruiting process, he spoke highly of FSU offensive line coach Alex Atkins

“I probably have the best relationship with Coach Atkins of any coach,” Mims told Rivals in September 2020. β€œHe was a nice guy who was easy to talk to. I absolutely loved it and really wanted to see what the campus was like before I made a decision.

“I also know Coach Woodson very well. I know him in Auburn and we have this strong relationship. The Florida staff is really cool.”

While Robert Scott appeared to have FSU’s starting tackle spot, there was extensive competition for another tackle spot this spring. Mims could be up against transfer partners Bless Harris, Darius Washington and others when preseason training begins in August.

FSU previously brought in Kayden Lyles from Wisconsin to compete for the starting center spot, while Lamar, who replaced Bless Harris, was in the tackle game.
