The wait was over for thousands of golf fans who arrived at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Haven, Wisconsin on Friday to attend the 43rd Ryder Cup competition between USA and Europe.

Famous for its loud and boisterous fan base, some attendees could be seen dressed up in American flag print suits or in costumes of Abraham Lincoln and other former American presidents.

The best golfers from the USA and Europe compete in the prestigious continental comparison where the hosts gained a lead of 6:2 ahead of their European guests after the first eight team duels on Friday.

The tournament that is taking place from 24 to 26 September was originally planned for 2020 but had been postponed for a year like many international sports events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
