Adrian College Baseball alumni Tommy Parsons ’18 and Ryan Dorow ’17 are shining during their second and third seasons, respectively, of Minor League Baseball this summer. Parsons recently was promoted to the Class Double-A level, playing for the Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis) in the Texas League, while Dorow represented the Class A Advanced Down East Wood Ducks in the Carolina League All-Star Game.
Parsons earned his second promotion already this spring by going 3-2 with a 2.13 earned-run average, 39 strikeouts against only seven walks, .246 opponents’ batting average and 1.13 WHIP in 42.1 innings for Palm Beach in the Single-A Advanced Florida Southern League. He began the season at Single-A, full season Peoria where he posted a 4-0 record, 0.26 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 35 innings. The former three-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year won his first game on Saturday for Double-A Springfield over Corpus Christi Hooks, 6-3, scattering eight hits and two earned runs over 6.1 innings while issuing no walks and getting four strikeouts.
“These are both huge accomplishments for Tommy and Ryan, and as a program, Bulldog Baseball couldn’t be more proud,” said Adrian head coach Craig Rainey. “Their tireless work ethic and love of baseball paves the way for everything they earn”
For the season, Parsons owns an 8-2 mark with a 1.40 ERA, 69 strikeouts, .203 opponents’ batting average and 0.90 WHIP in 83.2 innings.
Dorow went 2 for 3 with a run scored in an 8-7 loss Tuesday to the North Division in the Carolina League All-Star Game in Frederick, Md. He has helped the Down East Wood Ducks (Texas Rangers) claim the first-half CL South Division championship with a 50-20 record, nine games ahead of the second-best team.
On the season, Dorow has a team-leading eight home runs and 39 runs batted in–both tied for seventh in the Carolina League. He also is among league leaders in runs scored (T-4th, 40) and walks (5th, 32). The former three-time MIAA Outstanding Player and most decorated Bulldog with five All-America citations also has turned in some of the most memorable moments in the first half. He hit a go-ahead home run in ninth inning to break scoreless tie against Salem, April 16, and then less than two weeks later lifted a walk-off home run to beat the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on April 27. He also hit a walk-off double against the Keys, June 7. Dorow garnered Carolina League Player of the Week honors May 20-26 after hitting four home runs in a three-day span against Potomac, and driving in 10 runs over the seven days. The reigning Defender of the Year for the Rangers organization has also made countless web gems at third base in the first half of play.
